March 2011

It’s another beautiful sunny day here on the Essex coast. Yesterday I struggled to complete any designs as I’d rather be out in the sun, LOL. This was our misty sunset last night – lovely to look at from our bedroom window. We do have a fantastic view over the river and salt marshes.

So I went to the garden centre instead!

This morning I’ve finished a daffodil and a stegosaurus so I feel like I’ve done some work today!

What a beautiful day it was yesterday! The beach was very busy even though its only March. We saw a very unusual pigeon on the rocks. It was jet black with white tailbars and an iridescent green ruff on its back. It was very tame, hopping right up to us. As it was ringed I think it must have been a fancy pigeon who had got a bit lost. Maybe it just fancied a day at the seaside!!

In the evening we saw the amazing full moon there is at the moment, with the moon closer to the earth. It was very bright.

I have been learning to use some new embroidery software we bought and it looks very good. The photostitch part is excellent so when we are confident with it we will be able to offer this service. The website has been updated and the new designs are all up,

check out my sparrowhawk,

– he was a challenge!

I haven’t posted for a few days as I have been trying to finish my sparrowhawk design. It took me three days to get it looking and sewing how I wanted!  I have also got a few other designs ready. They are being prepared to go online tomorrow. We have our first cross stitch design – a rose. There is a cute little seahorse and a cello for music fans. This lovely bird pair would be ideal for a wedding or engagement.

We had a lovely weekend visiting St Albans. I went to my favourite fabric warehouse and got a couple of bags of lovely fabric remnants for bag making. I think I have enough to make a bag every week for the next year!!

I have been very busy today working on the sparrowhawk design and after a few hitches trying to get the tail stitches to look right I finally finished it this afternoon. I think it will look really good, it’s a large design to fit an 8 inch hoop. I am now test stitching it to make sure it will stitch out correctly before we put it on the website. We test stitch all our designs, and if I find any problems it’s back to the software and it’s altered until we get a test sewout that looks good.

Our Abbyssinian cat is keeping me company in my sewing room this evening. Cajun is a beautiful blue grey colour and likes to be with people. We also have a black and white moggy, Cyrus, and they are inseparable as they lived in a cage for 2 years together. They were rescued lab cats. They hadn’t actually been experimented on, but they had lived in sterile laboratory cages and had never been in a home or even outside!! Cajun was completely wild when we first had him, but you’d never know it now as he positively demands attention!

We’ve had some beautiful spring weather here yesterday and today. Daffodils are in bloom and the birds are starting to be very active. Which reminds me we need to get our bird boxes up. We have a lovely friend who is very good at carpentry and he has made us three bird boxes for our garden. One is for very small birds and will go on the back of our house. One is going high on the garden shed and the other probably on a high fence post. As our garden is to a new build we don’t have any large  trees to put them on. I think we need to get them up soon!

Thinking about birds inspired me to start some bird designs and today I have been working on a complicated sparrowhawk design. I found some lovely bird pictures to use as reference. There is a barn owl, a kingfisher, a swallow and another blue bird I need to find the name of. It would be nice to do all of them, but I may get bored with birds, so not all at once! I love my seagull design, which I have embroidered on the fleece I wear for my morning beach walks.

The sun is shining and we’ve had a restful weekend. While I was out for my fitness walk along the beach this morning I decided I should put some helpful articles on our blog. So today I am going to start with a very important factor for machine embroidery – stabilisers. You can read the article by clicking here.

It’s a beautiful sunny day here on the Essex coast. The new products I posted about yesterday are being added to the website as I type this! There is a lovely celebration design to come very soon, perfect for wedding or engagement items.

Do you use forums? I have added a link to my favourite one, the UK based ‘The Sewing Forum’. It is a brilliant place for any stitch crafty person. They have sections covering every type of stitchcraft and are a very friendly and helpful group. Of course they cover machine embroidery too!

Coming up this month in our store we have some exciting new designs. Focusing on baby items we have several teddy bears and a sweet little duckling that looks really cute on baby clothes. There are some apple trees which would look good on kitchen or home items. We have a spider for arachnologists and a crazy Cheshire cat. Is there a design you’d like to see? Let us know!
